STATEMENT FROM WINTERTON TOWN COUNCIL. 12 March 2024:
We have been trying to source a contractor who can carry out the addition of the names to the War Memorial. You will have noticed that the letters are not chiselled into the stone as with most war memorials but were cast in bronze onto a plaque that was then attached to the memorial. Sourcing a contractor to be able to carry out these specialist works so that they match exactly has been the problem.
I am pleased to say that we have now engaged a contractor. Unfortunately this is not a local firm but we have to accept that to be able to complete the project.
Winterton Town Council are now striving to complete these works in time for the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War II in May 2025*.
Thank you for your patience with this matter.

STATEMENT FROM WINTERTON TOWN COUNCIL, 9 December 2021:
Winterton Town Council is committed to adding the missing names to the war memorial and I can assure you that this decision still stands. The budget for this has been added to Ear Marked Reserves, so the funds are safe.
Unfortunately adding the names to Winterton War Memorial is proving more complex than just carving the names and a specialist contractor was sought during the lock down.
Despite our best efforts a local contractor could not be sourced and following advice from the War Memorial Trust a contractor was found in Derbyshire, but travel restriction prevented him from visiting Winterton.
When travel restrictions lifted the workload of the specialist had built up, but he has assured me that Winterton is still on his list of projects to complete.
I will of course keep you updated as this progresses.

Saturday 11 May 2019: Lovely to welcome David and Sue Rose from Canada. They came to remember two of David's relatives - David Loughnan (WW2) and Stephen Bigley (WW1) who have been approved to be added to Winterton war memorial. Many thanks to Cllr Paul McCartan and current Mayor Cllr Vicky Mumby for joining us on this special occasion. Paul was the Mayor when David Loughnan's name was approved in December 2017.
