For almost 100 years Winterton War Memorial has stood commemorating service personnel with links to the town who fell in both world wars. But what about those who served and returned?
At present there is nothing in the town saying ‘thank you’ to those who came back. Many returned from WW1 not only with physical and psychological scars, but also to no job, and no home, and that’s why it’s important to recognise their contribution as well.
Since 2014, the WW1 / WW2 exhibition has been on display at various events in the town, and residents young and old are continuing to put forward their suggestions. The vision is to have 'something', in whatever form it takes, be unveiled at the centenary of the Peace Celebrations in 2019.
